Basis of the Blog

This blog is an extension of Candid Captures. The intent, depending on the day, may be one of several different things. There will likely be entries directly related to a specific event that I was hired for, yet, there may be many entries just related to my personal photography or the equipment I use.

Hopefully there may be something here of interest to you and will peak your interest to check back every once in a while.

So sad to these two leave to head back to Kingston..

A midday beach party! #iberostarmontegobay #jamaica

Over breakfast, we were trying to figure out how it was possible that we won the Couples contest... Ok, so we did ok, BUT, we actually think that since we literally got to know dozens of people in the first 2 days and they were all in the audience, we had a strong vote. :). Thank you Justin, Gabrielle & Shane..

If color was the contest, I’d have a tough time as a judge... #iberostarmontegobay #jamaica

Wonderful Reggie band playing in the loung. #jamaica #iberostarmontegobay

Not entirely sure what it was that Peaches said which prompted my outburst of laughter, but it must have been good... #jamaica #iberostarmontegobay

Symmetrical.. #jamaica #iberostarmontegobay

One of the very last shots of the night, or lets call it one of the very first shots of the day..... #jamaica #iberostarmontegobay

One of the last shots from the beach session....... #jamaica #iberostarmontegobay

Making her mark in the sand.....

Note to self when visiting in this climate. Make sure to allow enough time for your camera to adjust from the air conditioning to the humidity along the beach. Literally take 30 minutes for the lens to clear up. However, still made for a nice black and white shot with a very natural filter....

Can a smile get any bigger and genuine? #jamaica #iberostarmontegobay

One thing that was interesting today was when taking a walk along the beach, interacting with the vendors and other locals selling various items. Met this gentleman, who I believe was selling a very popular substance from that black satchel bag... Although I told him i was not interested, he offered to allow me to take a couple of pictures of him... #jamaica #iberostarmontegobay

Happy Anniversary! 5 Years... #Jamaica #iberostarmontegobay

@edyta_brown really is a natural in having the ability to quickly transition into “vacation mode”. Me, not so much. But a little photo shoot sure does help. #Jamaica #iberostarmontegobay

The amount of beach activities is just fantastic. So great watching kids play... #jamaica #Iberostarmonetegobay

Took a walk around the resort to take a few pictures. I almost decided to leave the dSLR at home. So glad I didn’t. #Jamaica #iberostarmontegobay

Day 2 of vacation and we are getting to know some of the wonderful staff.... Meet Peaches, who just recruited us to be part of this evenings Couple Show. I wonder what he has in mind? Though he made it clear, this is a family show. Of course last night, i became part of the show and it involved fire between my legs.. Ya, that was a bit warm.. #jamaica #iberostarmontegobay

There were so many disturbing parts of the tour, however, this was the one of the most heart wrenching spots for me. Especially when I began to visualize what transpired here. Depicted is one of the cattle cars uses. This was build in 1919 to transport cattle, but was also used to transport about 100 people at a time. Men, women and children all squeezed for days, sometimes weeks at a time. When they arrived here, within seconds, the decision of whether they would live or die happened with a swipe of the hand to move to the left or right. Left to die, right to live..... Most all the women and all the Jewish children were moved to the left.

This shot was taken in the only crematorium that was not destroyed by the Nazi’s. The planning that went into the disposing of the 1.4 million bodies of the murdered was so elaborate, it’s actually inconceivable to think about. Track installed in order to quickly move the bodies and ashes..

.....

No 20 foot walls. Freedom was always visible. Just further torture.

This older gentleman was part of our group. Based on his intensity of observation and questions to the guide, I believe he had a personal connection with this place. Perhaps a family member.

A shot of the firing squad wall. Sad to say, those shot here may have been considered the “fortunate” ones..

Block 14. One building of 300 between the two camps. One thing that I learned was that this facility was originally a Polish barracks.
